Ancient Roots

Nestled in the tiny hamlet of Brascote (once “Brocardscote” in the Domesday Book), our pub restaurant stands on the site of a medieval settlement.

The Namesake Windmill

In 1812, a windmill journeyed from Syston to make its home beside what would eventually become our pub. For nearly a century, its sails turned against Leicestershire skies, grinding corn for the surrounding community. Though the windmill stopped turning sometime around 1912, its memory is celebrated throughout the pub.

From Miller to Publican

Around the 1850s, the miller, a Mr. John Barrs decided that after a hard day’s milling, the locals might appreciate a refreshing pint. And so The Old Mill Inn was born! For forty years, Mr. Barrs happily served the community as both miller and publican, creating a special gathering place. A happy, welcoming vibe, that lives on in the current Windmill.

A Touch of History

While the windmill itself was eventually dismantled just before WW1, its central post found new purpose in Market Bosworth Hall’s staircase where it remains to this day.
